Relaunch Coming Soon
/Pam has been in Sparks, Nevada for the past several weeks receiving radiation treatment for breast cancer. The treatments have gone well, and the medical team has assured us that Pam has a 98% chance that the cancer will never return. Ultimately, our confidence is in Jesus…but it’s nice to have the medical community’s assurance, too.
Pam will return to Costa Rica on Friday, November 5. It will have been one month since we last saw each other. This is the longest stretch we’ve been apart in our 44 years of marriage. I can’t wait to have her back home!
While Pam has been gone, I’ve been prayerfully crafting a strategy to relaunch English Christian Fellowship. Years ago, the church was a robust beacon for Jesus in the Central Valley. But the last several years have been difficult. So difficult, in fact, that before we arrived there was serious conversation about discontinuing weekly worship services and morphing into a house church.
Those days are now behind us. We are preparing to boldly step out in faith to reach the surrounding English-speaking community like never before. Pam and I would covet your prayers. What we are proposing will radically alter the long-standing church culture at ECF. Change is never easy, and the changes we are proposing will be faith-stretching for everyone, including Pam and me. Pray for unity.
And pray for our publicity efforts to be effective. A key part of our launch strategy will be an aggressive publicity campaign to capture the attention of the English-speaking residents in this area. Pray that the Holy Spirit uses these efforts to bring about a rich harvest of new people for ECF to help grow in Christ.
Also, pray for more workers. When we launched Summit, early on God brought us people who worked selflessly to build the church…people like Chris Winslow, Billy Brenneman, Bill and Theda Denney, Byron and Joan Meyer, and many others. Pray for God to bring us selfless servants like those early Summit faith heroes.
Not a day goes by when I don’t thank God for the new faith adventure that he has called us into. I am grateful for the Lord’s constant presence, wisdom, and comfort. But I am also grateful for your presence in our lives, and your prayers. Pam and I have never felt alone in this new adventure. We appreciate you more than you could ever know.
